PEPI CULVER
Pepi is a Montana native and veteran of the international ski community — first as a Nordic racer, then Alpine. Since the late 1990s he's worked as a professional ski technician, starting at a shop in Park City, Utah, and working his way up to supporting the USA and Norwegian ski teams. Today he travels with Völkl Skis, tuning for World Cup racer Alice Robinson — and for the entire run, two ZARGES cases have gone everywhere with him.
"I would say every ski tech out there, anyone who is traveling, is using the ZARGES box. The ones you see are pretty recognizable — you know what they are."
After 25 years and — by his own count — nearly 3 million miles, we asked Pepi if he'd trade one of his cases for a brand-new one, so we could bring his original on the road to trade shows. He agreed. His case is still out there, doing exactly what it was doing 25 years ago.
In a ski room, that reputation shows up as a sound. "I hear this loud banging noise, and someone who just arrived pulled out all their trays and they're hammering the case back into shape. That's a very familiar sound. You'll walk over and you're like, 'Oh wow, that's a pretty good hit there.' Kind of like battle scars on the body. We get together and we talk about our ZARGES hits."
