What ITAR registration is

ITAR is the set of US rules, under the Arms Export Control Act, that controls defense articles and defense services on the US Munitions List. Any company in the US that manufactures, exports or temporarily imports defense articles, or furnishes defense services, must register with the State Department's Directorate of Defense Trade Controls and keep that registration current.

Registration is not a product certificate. It is the precondition for a company to apply for export licenses or use ITAR exemptions, and it commits the company to a compliance program: a senior officer responsible for it, named empowered officials, and records that DDTC or Customs can inspect at any time.

What it means for defense customers

Prime contractors and government programs that build ITAR-controlled equipment need suppliers who understand the rules — who will not share controlled technical data with foreign persons without approval, and who keep the records the regulations require. A case built to fit a controlled system often carries controlled drawings with it.

The State Department confirmed ZARGES Inc.'s manufacturer registration in August 2026; it runs to August 31, 2027. The State Department's letter is linked below, with the registrant code redacted.

What it does not mean

Registration itself does not grant export rights or licenses, and it does not make a ZARGES case a defense article. Whether a particular custom configuration is ITAR-controlled depends on what it is built for; the ZARGES USA team will work through that with you on a defense order.

Common Questions

FAQ

Is ZARGES ITAR registered?

Yes. ZARGES Inc. in Charlotte, NC is registered as a manufacturer with the US State Department's Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC). The current registration expires August 31, 2027.

Is ITAR registration the same as an export license?

No. Registration is required before a company can apply for export licenses or use ITAR exemptions, but it does not itself grant any export rights.

Does ITAR registration make ZARGES cases ITAR-controlled?

No. Registration is about the company, not the product. Whether a particular custom case is controlled depends on what it is built for, and is worked out order by order.

Can ZARGES work with controlled technical data?

ZARGES Inc. is registered under ITAR, which carries the record-keeping and foreign-person rules described on this page. Talk to the ZARGES USA team about your program before sending controlled drawings.
